Halloween Pumpkin Rice Krispies Treats (feat. Anslee Tatum)

I don’t know one person who doesn’t enjoy a good Rice Krispies Treat.  They are so marshmallowy good that they’re pretty irresistible.  Definitely one of the best recipes out there; I can’t think of a better dessert for Tiny Kitchen Big Taste’s Recipe Remix month than the good ol’ fashioned Rice Krispies Treats!  And they’re perfect to Halloweenize to add a little holiday flair.

When I looked up the recipe, I noticed that Kellogg’s calls them Rice Krispies Treats.  Is it just me…I would always call them Rice Krispy Treats???  Just seems like too many S’s in Rice Krispies Treats that it gets me a little tongue tied.  Or maybe it’s just the fact that I’m usually stuffing a Rice Krispies Treats in my mouth at the same time I’m trying to say it.  Either way you pronounce it, they’re super good!  And soooooo quick and easy to make.  Seriously, if you need to bring something festive to a Halloween Party, you can fire these Halloween Pumpkins off in about a half hour from top to bottom.  And kids love making them too!

Halloween was always a pretty big deal growing up!  We would always get dressed up and go Trick or Treating with our neighbors.  The kids across the street, Chris and Jennifer, were about the same age as me and my sister, respectively, so it was perfect!  We were all best of friends and thankfully, over the years, we still keep in touch.

But looking back, I remember always thinking that Chris had the coolest costumes!  And he did have some great ones.  I, personally, was lucky that my mom was a pretty handy seamstress in her own right and she would whip up some amazing costumes.

Case in point:  the Dracula cape you see…Mom made.  And with it, I won the Halloween costume contest at the NASA Johnson Space Center Halloween party.  I was pretty proud of that one!  Way to go Mom!

Throughout the years, the costumes changed to what was en vogue at the time.  Spiderman was always my favorite…so, of course, I had to be Spidey!  And my sister, well, she wanted to be the Hulk.  Huh.  Interesting choice.  But I’ll tell you, she sold that with a pretty fierce, Hulktacular growl!

Carving pumpkins was always a staple at my house growing up too.  But my dad was a big tool man….he had everything Craftsman….so he would hand us some pretty legit handsaws to cut through our pumpkins rather than these pathetic toy saws you buy these days that you end up sawing for weeks just to make an eye on your pumpkin.  I remember thinking I was so cool getting to use the adult tools.Tiny Kitchen Big Taste

As for my pumpkin carving talents…well, maybe I should just stick to cooking…because I think these Pumpkin Rice Krispies Treats turned out a little bit better…and they were so much fun to make.  And this Tiny Kitchen shoot was a blast too!  I got to make the pumpkins with Anslee Tatum, who is the daughter of a good friend of mine.  Anslee’s an actress and she’s out in LA from Alabama, with her Mom, auditioning and meeting with casting directors.  It seems like she’s having so much fun and she’s really talented.  It’s just a matter of time!

In the meantime, give these Pumpkin Treats a whirl.  They’re the perfect Halloween treat and if you have half the fun we did making them, it’s going to be a pretty amazing Halloween!
